Sunlight of the Spirit (S.O.S.) is a non-profit organization that was created to provide assistance to people who are in transition from a variety of circumstances. Sunlight of the Spirit is a term used in the Big Book of Alcoholic Anonymous implying that "When people recover from the hopelessness of addiction they will bask in the sunlight of the Spirit".
We have faith and committment to bring services to under served populations and communities providing basic human needs with the goal to raise the quality of life and work towards self-sufficiency. The populations we work with are homeless, low-income, disabled, ex-offenders, and other disenfranchised groups with the common goal of the desire to change. Some of the most basic human needs are food, shelter, and clothing. S.O.S. has been operating a food pantry located at 3200 W. Fulton in the City of Chicago since 2002. We also have a Community Garden located on the corner of Richmond and Armitage Ave. in Chicago. Some of our other services include a Resale Shop ,"Shabby-Chic", that is located at 1913 S. Cicero, IL. This helps provide clothing to community members which are distributed on a voucher system We are partnered with Jack Clark's Family Recovering Communities, Inc., which helps to provide shelter, another essential human need, along with enriching individuals' personal lives by implementing love and the notion of a family.
